TEA REVIEW: Sleepytime Vanilla Herbal Tea

Image

Heres another tea from Andreas cupboard! Celestial tea never disappoints me with there sleepy time range and this tea is no different. This actually might be my favourite sleep time tea yet! The hints of vanilla is so calming and puts you straight to dream town.

Image

Smell: The scent is so calming and you can definitely smell the vanilla!

Steep time: I steeped it for about 6 minutes, which is on the longer side to steep this tea, but it didn’t get bitter or anything so that was good!

Color: Nothing special, just tea coloured.

Taste: A great blend of vanilla and a light peppermint and herbal taste. I really enjoyed this cup while sitting in a hot bath before bed. It’s going to be my go to bedtime tea for sure!

COFFEE REVIEW!?!

Wait say what?! A coffee review, on a tea blog? Yes that’s right, you read well friend! Being in my last month of classes I’ve been needing some caffeine in my life and this is the only coffee I’ve found myself getting addicted to!

Image

Nescafe espresso coffee is what you’ll be finding in my mug this month! I normally don’t drink coffee because it makes my feel crapy (literally) but this blend is so soft and smooth it makes my tummy happy! Not to mention the fact that the espresso has been helping me finish all my assignments! (please note all the exclamation marks, yes I am drinking this right now) I don’t drink milk so I like to add coconut milk to my coffee! I was a little worried it would taste a little funky, but I was wrong! It makes it so much nicer and creamier!

Image

Smell: smells like coffee, I’m not too crazy about the smell actually.

Steep time: It’s instant coffee! I use 2 teaspoons in a large mug and stir.

Taste: Not too dark but not light. It’s a happy medium and I love it!

TEA WISH LIST

Image

Hello!
Spring is in the tea, and I’m so excited for the warmer season. That being said, spring and summer calls for iced tea and beach days! Here are a few things on my tea wish list!

1- This DavidsTea Teal Mason Jar (with straw!) is the cutest thing ever! I can see myself bringing this along to the beach filled with iced tea! Teal is my favourite colour so I’m super happy it comes in the shade!

2- Another travel item is this DavidsTea lime timolino mug. It’s designed to keep your drink hot, and the lime colour is so nice!

3- I have never heard of Joco cups until now, but I’m so happy I know about them! They are a spill free glass coffee (or tea) travel cup that are small but ca hold 8 ounces of beverage! They come in so many colours but the yellow is by far my favourite! I think everyone is getting one of these from me on their birthday this year!

4- Teapigs! I have never tried the brand tea pigs before, but my friend Essie swears by them. She says the liquorice and peppermint tea is the perfect combination of sweet and minty. Everything Essie recommends me always ends up being a favourite so I’m definitely getting this tea!

5- This is a Teavana strawberry and grapefruit tea that would probably be good iced! This summer calls for fruity tea so this would be a great addition to my collection.

LOOSE TEA VS BAGGED TEA (featuring DavidsTea Infuser)

Image

Everyone and their nana purchase tea in bags, but I’m here to tell you that loose tea is the way to go! The tea found in tea bags usually have smaller pieces of tea leaves or tea fannings (or dusts) which give a quicker brew, but lack the full flavor of the larger loose leaf teas. With loose tea you get to decide how much tea leaves you want as opposed to getting tea bags which is a fixed amount. DavidsTea infusers are a great way to steep! There are also tea balls, but they sometimes open in your mug and that makes people cry.

Image

Whenever I have company over I always make them tea, it’s always nice to see their reaction when I make them loose tea. This concept is foreign to them, and I think it’s time loose tea can be found in any home! p.s If you want to really impress guests, get a clear tea pot (or mason jar) and put a blooming flower tea ball! The results are beautiful and it tastes amazing too!

So think twice before purchasing tea bags!

Agave Review!

Image

Agave is a natural sweetener made from the nectar of an agave plant. Agave nectar has been used for centuries as a folk remedy for its medicinal properties. Now we use it as a substitute for sugar! Davidstea has come out with two flavours of agave; raspberry and vanilla. I love them both so much! But you have to be carful what tea you put them in, because of the flavouring it could either ruin or enhance a tea’s natural flavour.

Image

Use the raspberry agave in fruit teas to enhance the fruit flavour and add a nice sweetness to the tea. Or you could add it to a chocolate tea to add make a raspberry chocolate tea, YUM!

Smell: Very sweet and fruity.

Taste: Very lovely and not too crazy. It’s very light but adds a lot of fun to your tea!

3 out of 5 for the raspberry agave!

The vanilla agave is my favourite! You can never go wrong by adding vanilla to a tea. Any tea will be lovely with a hint of vanilla in my opinion!

Taste: 10 out of 10! LOVE!

Smell: Vanilla has always been one of my favourite scents so this is no exception! I love it!

HOW TO THRIFT SHOP

Welcome back,

I know this isn’t about tea, but it is about one of my other passions, thrift shopping! The art of thrift shopping has always been something I excelled in. My mother started my love for thrifting, as it would always be our last store to hit when doing errands. In the beginning I thought places like Value Village and local thrift stores were disgusting. The more we went, the better my finds would end up. I became a pro at spotting gems and how to recycle the not so great pieces that still had potential. Recently, Macklemore’s song Thrift Shop has made thrifting “in style”, so now dear readers, I’m sharing all my secrets with you. Here’s how to thrift like a pro.

Start a wish\want list to get ideas for what you’ll be searching for.  This way, it’s easier to know what you need and easily track things down, but don’t be surprised when you find pieces that you didn’t expect to want! The unexpected “hey this is cute!” items you find will make you so excited and will then get you addicted to thrifting (you’ve been warned!)

Instead of just scanning the racks for something to jump out at you, push aside all the clothes on a rack and go through every piece. If your new to thrift shopping, you may want to start out at a slow pace and look at every item, as you become better you’ll be flying through them knowing exactly what works and what won’t.

How to know if the piece is worth it:

So you’ve found a cute top or bottom that could potentially work. Think to yourself the following questions…

  • Is it versatile?
  • Do I know where I can wear it?

  • Is it stained?
  • Is it my style?
  • Is the material itchy or unflattering?

Most thrift stores not only have clothing but also have a section for nick knacks, dishware, and décor.  When looking through this section keep an open mind and think about what kind of DIY projects you can do. See a boring old white lamp shade? Maybe consider making a lace covered lamp shade!

So, before going thrift shopping, search the internet (or even this blog) for great DIYs and look for items you can re-invent.

Good luck and happy shopping!

APRIL WISH LIST

Image

1- This teapot for one I found on amazon makes me cry in the best way possible. It is so dainty and unique, making tea in it would make me feel like a very elegant queen or something.

2- Kate Moross recently came out with a book titled “Make your own luck”. It is a graphic design and illustration book. I love Kate’s work and being a graphic design student I could really use some her inspirational words.

3- This bracelet from Etsy is super fun and gives a trendy twist on the average friendship bracelet. I think layering bracelets will be a great trend this summer.

4- A crossley record player. Yes please! I love the sound record players give off, and I’ve been dreaming about getting one forever now!

5- Mumford and Sons album Sigh No More, on vinyl, to go with my crossley record player!!

6- It’s a sweater covered in flamingos. Enough said.

So that was my wish list this month! Hope you enjoyed it!
